About the area

Tumble facts

Tumble is a Gower-edge settlement of lanes, hedge banks, farmland and older stone boundaries. It is part of the Llanelli, Burry Port & the Amman Valley area, within about 30 miles of Swansea.

  • The village developed in the nineteenth century to house anthracite miners of the Great Mountain collieries.
  • The 1887 Great Mountain Colliery site is now Mynydd Mawr Woodland Park, over 200 acres.
  • Sits on or close to the Gower Peninsula, the United Kingdom's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, designated in 1956.
  • Field boundaries, lanes and older stone walls give the area its long-established rural pattern.
