About the area

Roch facts

Roch is a Gower-edge settlement of lanes, hedge banks, farmland and older stone boundaries. It is part of the Haverfordwest, Tenby & the Pembrokeshire Coast area, within about 30 miles of Swansea.

  • Roch Castle was built around 1200 by the Norman knight Adam de Rupe, founder of Pill Priory.
  • It stands on a rocky outcrop near the Landsker Line, with views over St Brides Bay.
  • Sits on or close to the Gower Peninsula, the United Kingdom's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, designated in 1956.
  • Field boundaries, lanes and older stone walls give the area its long-established rural pattern.
