About the area

Narberth facts

Narberth is a Gower-edge settlement of lanes, hedge banks, farmland and older stone boundaries. It is part of the Haverfordwest, Tenby & the Pembrokeshire Coast area, within about 30 miles of Swansea.

  • Narberth Castle, first mentioned in 1116, was rebuilt in stone in the thirteenth century by the Perrot family.
  • The ruined castle overlooks the town and features in the Mabinogi as Pryderi's court.
  • Sits on or close to the Gower Peninsula, the United Kingdom's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, designated in 1956.
  • Field boundaries, lanes and older stone walls give the area its long-established rural pattern.
