About the area

Brynamman facts

Brynamman is a Gower-edge settlement of lanes, hedge banks, farmland and older stone boundaries. It is part of the Llanelli, Burry Port & the Amman Valley area, within about 30 miles of Swansea.

  • Formerly called Y Gwter Fawr, it was renamed when the railway arrived from Ammanford.
  • The River Amman splits the village and forms the Carmarthenshire-Neath Port Talbot boundary.
  • Sits on or close to the Gower Peninsula, the United Kingdom's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, designated in 1956.
  • Field boundaries, lanes and older stone walls give the area its long-established rural pattern.
