About the area
Broad Haven facts
Broad Haven is an exposed stretch of the Swansea and Gower coastline, shaped by salt wind, sand and rock. It is part of the Haverfordwest, Tenby & the Pembrokeshire Coast area, within about 30 miles of Swansea.
- A bathing resort since around 1800, when bathing machines stood on its west-facing beach.
- Coal was once extracted from the cliffs north of its broad sandy bay.
- Forms part of Swansea's coastline along the Bristol Channel, where the tidal range is among the largest in the world.
- Cliffs, dunes and shingle here support specialised plants that cope with salt, wind and shifting sand.
