River Tywi facts
River Tywi is a watercourse in the Swansea area, carrying water, seeds and soil downstream through the city and its valleys. It is part of the Carmarthen, the Tywi & the Taf Estuary area, within about 30 miles of Swansea.
- One of the longest rivers flowing wholly within Wales, at around 75 miles.
- It rises in the Cambrian Mountains and runs through Llandovery and Llandeilo to Carmarthen Bay.
- Its floodplain meadows and banks can carry balsam seed downstream.
- Drains part of the Swansea area, eventually reaching Swansea Bay and the Bristol Channel.
