Carmarthen is a built-up part of Swansea where housing, back lanes, walls and small pockets of open ground sit close together. It is part of the Carmarthen, the Tywi & the Taf Estuary area, within about 30 miles of Swansea.
- A Roman auxiliary fort, Moridunum, was founded here around AD 75, making it one of Wales's oldest towns.
