About the area

Nantgaredig facts

Nantgaredig is a Gower-edge settlement of lanes, hedge banks, farmland and older stone boundaries. It is part of the Carmarthen, the Tywi & the Taf Estuary area, within about 30 miles of Swansea.

  • The village grew after the Llandeilo-Carmarthen railway opened in 1865; its station closed in 1963.
  • Nearby Pont Llandeilo-yr-ynys, a three-arched bridge over the Tywi, was built in 1787.
  • Sits on or close to the Gower Peninsula, the United Kingdom's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, designated in 1956.
  • Field boundaries, lanes and older stone walls give the area its long-established rural pattern.
